Standard First Aid & Basic Life Support (SFA & BLS) – A comprehensive two-day course offering first aid and CPR training with the added component of the basic life support.

Duration: blended program 8 hours online learning followed by 7 hours teaching time. Or 13-14 hour program over two days, in person.

Recerification Course: 7.5 hours in class OR 4 hours in class plus 4 hours online learning.

 

Standard First Aid & CPR C AED Course (SFA CPR C AED) – By enrolling in this first aid course you will gain the skills and knowledge to save lives. Comprehensive two-day course offering first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills for those who need training due to work requirements or who want more knowledge to respond to emergencies at home. Course meets legislation requirements for provincial/territorial worker safety and insurance boards and includes the latest first aid and CPR guidelines. This course prepares you for emergency situations at home and in the workplace.

Recertification Course: 5 hours in-class or 4 hours in-class + 4 hours online learning

 

Emergency First Aid CPR C AED (EFA CPR C AED) – Basic one-day course offering lifesaving first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills for the workplace or home. Course meets legislation requirements for provincial/territorial worker safety and insurance boards and includes the latest first aid and CPR guidelines.

Duration: 1 day, 7.5 hours or 4.5 hours in class plus 4 hours online learning

Recertification:  5 hours in-class or 4 hours in-class + 4 hours online learning

 

CPR C – Courses on cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) provide the skills needed to recognize and respond to cardiovascular emergencies and choking for adults, children, and babies depending on the level of CPR chosen. Courses meet legislation requirements for provincial/territorial worker safety and insurance boards, and include the latest CPR guidelines and training in the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED).

Duration: 5 hours in class or 3 hours in class plus 3 hours online learning.

 

PREVENTING DISEASE TRANSMISSION- This course focuses primarily on understanding how infection occurs and how participants can use personal protective equipment and good prevention of disease transmission practices to reduce their risk of infection. How infection occurs and how it is spread. Proper handwashing techniques. Personal protective equipment its proper use, removal and disposal.

Duration: 40 minutes of online training.

Youth

Babysitting Course -Offers basic first aid and caregiving skills for youth 11-15 years old. Participants learn how to provide care to children in a variety of age groups, and how to prevent and respond to emergencies. The course also offers youth the skills to promote themselves as babysitters to prospective families.
Duration: 7-8 hours

Stay Safe! Course -Offers basic first aid and safety skills for youth 9-13 years old. Participants learn about being safe when they are without the direct supervision of a parent, guardian, or trusted adult, both at home and in their communities.
Duration: 5-6 hours

Psychological First Aid :

Psychological First Aid – Learning psychological first aid skills for a mental health crisis could save a life.The goal of this course is to address the basic needs and reduces psychological distress by providing a caring comforting presence and education on common stress reactions.
Duration: in-person classroom format (12 hours) or as a blended online and in-person classroom format (90 minutes online and 7 hours in class).

SELF-CARE & WELLNESS
Caring for Others- Learn how to care for others when they are in distress while doing so without judgement or assumptions. This course will help you develop skills to helps others cope with stress.
Duration: 45-90 min

Self-Care – This course will help you become more resilient to your personal stress. You will learn the effects of stress, loss and trauma while building a personal self-care plan.

Wilderness & Remote First Aid :

The Canadian Red Cross Wilderness & Remote First Aid Program (WRFA) offers specialty first aid courses for those who live, work, and/or play in non-urban, remote, and wilderness settings. With three levels of training, participants can choose the course which best meets their needs for personal safety and the safety of others in remote and wilderness environments.

Wilderness First Responder– For individuals who work as part of a formal rescue and response system, typically having a duty to act as a member of a team. For rescuers who specialize in decision-making,extrication and transport.
Duration: 80 hours

Wilderness First Aid CPR – For individuals that work and/or spend significant time in a wilderness environment, or lead groups in a professional capacity.
Duration: 40 hours
Remote First Aid – For individuals that work or live in a remote (or non-urban) environment.
Duration: 20 hours

Marine :

Marine Basic First Aid– Comprehensive two-day course designed to meet the needs of those expected to provide first aid in a marine environment. Course uses a combination of lecture, discussion, and scenarios taken from the marine/fishing industry to teach the required knowledge and skills. Course meets the requirements of Transport Canada outlined in Transport Publication (TP) 13008 E.

Emergency Medical Responder (EMR)- Participants will learn and demonstrate all knowledge and skills needed to provide appropriate patient assessments, interventions, and on-going care, including the transportation of a patient to a healthcare facility. Course content may vary depending on jurisdictional requirements and, in addition, follows the National Occupational Competency Profiles (NOCP) as defined by the Paramedic Association of Canada. Participants will be engaged in dynamic training techniques including video, media presentations, skills demonstrations, practice sessions, discussions and scenarios based on real-life situations.
Duration: 80-120 hours
Recertification: 40 hours

First Responder (FR) –Comprehensive first aid and CPR skills for professional first responders or those training to become first responders. Course teaches the patient assessment model, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, hemorrhage control, and care for a variety of acute and chronic conditions. Participants will be engaged in dynamic training techniques including video, media presentations, skills demonstrations, practice sessions, discussions and scenarios based on real-life situations.
Duration: 40 hours
Recertification: 20 hours

Advanced First Aid (AFA)- Building on the knowledge and skills within the Emergency Care for Professional Responders text, learners will gain the knowledge and skills needed to provide appropriate patient assessments, interventions, and ongoing care in the workplace. The various options for transportation of an injured worker from the workplace to a healthcare facility are also covered. This course meets CSA Standard Z1210-17 First Aid Training for the Workplace
Duration: 80-120 hours
Recerification: 40 hours

Basic Life Support (BLS)- Designed to build participant confidence in performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills in a team environment for professionals with a duty to respond. Teaches the important steps to perform a rapid assessment, perform Basic Life Support (BLS) skills, and perform rapid defibrillation including use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). Airway Management and Oxygen Therapy can also be added as additional certifications to this course
Duration: Stand-alone course – 4 hours
With Airway Management – 5 hours
With Oxygen Therapy – 5 hours
With Airway Management and Oxygen Therapy – 6 hours

Airway Management- Designed to provide participants with the knowledge and skills to create a patent airway, the interventions to maintain it, and the equipment available to carry out these skills. Participants will gain the knowledge and skills required to provide the appropriate interventions, including measuring and inserting the applicable airway adjunct based on the patient’s condition. Course can also be combined with Basic Life Support training for additional certification.
Duration: 1-2 hours. 1 hour if combined with BLS (Basic Life Support) course

Oxygen Therapy – Designed to provide participants with the knowledge and skills to correctly identify when it is necessary to administer supplemental oxygen. Participants will learn how to properly and safely handle and assemble the equipment and how to correctly deliver supplemental oxygen through the appropriate delivery device. Course can also be combined with Basic Life Support.
Duration: Stand-alone course – 1-2 hours
Combined with BLS – 1 hour

First Aid & CPR Instructors support the Red Cross First Aid Program through the delivery of our First Aid and CPR courses. Candidates enter our comprehensive Instructor Development Program, designed to prepare them to support dynamic, learner-centered classroom environments.

Duration: This is a hands on training course with a combination of online and in person training. A schedule to suit your needs will be arranged.

 

HEART AND STROKE

Basic Life Support for Health Care Provider (BLS HCP) – Health care professionals and first responders new to BLS or do not frequently engage in life-saving measures

Duration: 3.5 hours

Basic Life Support for Health Care Provider (BLS HCP) Renewal – A face paced course for health providers who use their BLS skills regularly and require limited practice to successfully renew their annual certification.

Duration: 2.5 hours
